Topics@Psychology#6: Psychology and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
An Introduction into how cognitive psychology has lead the way in the development of artificial intelligence.
Ideal to show as an extension to studying approaches, issues and debates.
The PPT slides progressively cover what is intelligence and the development of artificial intelligence and artificial life forms (AL).
Development of AI includes: The Chinese Room, The Turin Test (and Eugene who recently passed), ASIMO, CYCORPS and Wetware.
Students are asked to consider a range of difficult issues including: Can a machine become a life-form, should it have ethical protection, who should monitor the development (doomsday scenarios) and do you need embodiment to be sentient?
Consists of a PPT display (32 slides) with under slide comments linking to online videos; to supplement understanding. Within the slides are activities and things to think about.
You are welcome to amend, expand or reduce the display to suit your needs.

I have taught on residential courses, outside of term time, with companies such as Justin Craig Education. These usually comprised of 2-4 days of intensive teaching in small groups of students, and were examination board specific. Fees included travel and accommodation.
I have also taught on weekend courses in the run-up to examinations with companies such as Hillcrest Revision. These are usually one day, non-residential, courses with GCSE or A-Level students and are examination board specific, often involving one-to-one tuition. There are lots of ‘tutoring’ companies online, to which it’s free to sign up, including Fleet Tutors, Tutor Hunt, First Tutors, Tutorful etc.
I do ‘mailshot’s to local schools (if you need to check examination boards etc. check their website and look under curriculum or similar). In the mailshot I include a poster advertising tuition 2-me and online tuition (Vista print are good), business cards (Moo are good) and a pen with my logo (Ebay are cheapest) and don’t forget ALL expenses can be set against tax!
I also get lists of local schools from examination boards, and send advertising leaflets directly, offering private tuition (online if not local), CPD, school revision visits, workshops etc. Communication by email is convenient but letters are more personal and I have got quite a few school visits out of it. I also occasionally advertise privately on ‘Facebook’ (targeted advertising is quite easy to set up) and local papers at specific times of the year (particularly in the run-up to examinations). But a word of warning: take care as advertising is expensive, so it is important to analyse it for cost effectiveness.
cont.... in leaflet along with lots more.... Good Luck
